CENSUS 2010

nonprofitscount-logoThe U.S. Census is a tremendously important endeavor – the data are used to apportion Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to annually distribute over $400 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year.

With significantly fewer federal dollars available to support census outreach and education to hard-to-reach populations, community-based organizations and efforts play a key role in preparing citizens and residents to participate in the Census. Yours can contribute as well!

One of our partner organizations, Nonprofit Voter Engagement Network, has developed a fantastic toolkit at NonprofitsCount.org. Check out two of the fact sheets (pdf): Why Nonprofits? and A Nonprofit Checklist. There is a wealth of other information, media, and resources available at NonprofitsCount.org, so be sure to use them!

And of course, the U.S. Census Bureau has general information and materials easily accessible on their site, 2010.census.gov.
